Going South
Rotterdam's Ben Diggins kickstarts Haven Trax's 2026 schedule with his 'Going South' EP, dropping on the 27th February. The warm, deeply musical EP follows a breakout 2025 marked by standout appearances on Michel de Hey's Future Feel and Infinite Pleasure, as well as regular appearances at Thuishaven. Now on Haven Trax, the Clinical Records label boss delivers four originals that draw on the Deep South's jazz sensibilities, effortlessly tying together emotional depth with dancefloor precision. Opening the EP, 'DLMP' channels timeless '90s euphoria, pairing a dubbed-out, elastic bassline and slick organ chords with soothing vocals from Dutch jazz vocalist Luca Warmer in a rare collaboration. Next title track 'Going South' leans into punchy, skippy percussion with cosmic flourishes, while long retro synth lines and tight vocal work give the track a sense of early-morning release. On the flip, 'Power Within' sets the tone with a lucid, emotive groove where ethereal textures float over a jazzy motif, as warm synths wrap around a heart-led rhythm built for late-night introspection. Closing out the EP, 'Song With My Father' strips things back, revealing a deep, dubby framework built on velvet-like arpeggios and flawless piano keys - a personal, sunsoaked, and reflective finale that nods quietly to Diggins' roots.
